Q: How do I care for my vinyl tonneau cover?

The vinyl fabric on your tonneau cover can be cleaned with mild soap and water, and may be hand washed or safely cleaned in the car wash of your choice. Thoroughly rinse cover to remove any soap residue. Vinyl cover can be treated with any vinyl protectants made for tonneau covers. Never clean cover with petroleum or citrus-based products, and avoid silicone based protectants. We now offer Pro-Tex soft tonneau protectant spray to clean, preserve and protect your soft tonneau.

Q: How can I improve the seal of my tonneau cover?

Although no tonneau cover is completely waterproof, the Original TruXedo® tonneau cover will help to keep rain, snow, and dust out of the bed of your truck. Since different types of bed liners and bed rails may affect how the tonneau fits at the front of the bed, each kit will include one small piece of weather seal. This weather seal can then be fitted into the front corners of the truck bed, further helping to keep elements out of the bed.

Q: How do I adjust the tension on my tonneau cover?

The Original TruXedo® tonneau cover has automatic tension control. There are two spring loaded steel plungers at the front of the bed that maintain constant tension on the front header, allowing the cover to stay tight in any weather. Initially, you need to set the tension. This should be done during the warmest part of the day by closing the cover, releasing the Velcro® brand fasteners from both sides near the cab, and checking compression of the spring plungers against the front header. Roll cover open to make adjustments. Repeat until satisfactory tension is achieved. Refer to the TruXedo® Owners Manual for more specific information.

Q: Will the Original TruXedo® work with my other truck accessories?

Yes! The unique inside mount design of the Original TruXedo® rails enables you to accessorize with most bed rails, bed liners, and rail caps.

Q: Can I lock the Original TruXedo®?

The Original TruXedo® secures automatically when latched at the rear, and provides added security when used with a locking tailgate. It can not be opened until the tailgate is unlocked and opened. There are no additional locks or sliding mechanisms needed to lock the cover.

Q: Will the Original TruXedo® work in the winter as well as in the summer?

The tonneau cover fabric will not shrink in cold temperatures, to –40 degrees F. Patented automatic tension control system keeps the cover tight whether it is 40 degrees below or 120 degrees above. Sliding Velcro® brand hook on the side rail works with the automatic tension control plungers to keep the cover tight – even when it’s closed!

Q: Will the Original TruXedo® work with a 5th wheel?

Yes! Simply roll the cover all the way open and secure with security straps at the front of the bed. This allows you full access to your 5th wheel.

Q: Can I still open my tailgate with the Original TruXedo® on my truck?

Yes – the Original TruXedo® does not restrict the tailgate. The rear header functions independently of the tailgate so there is nothing to remove when opening the tailgate.

Q: Does the Original TruXedo® come in different colors?

The Original TruXedo® fabric is available in black only.

Q: I have a bed extender. Will the TruXedo® work with it?

The Original TruXedo® side rails extend 2 3/4” into the bed on each side. In order to use the bed extender, it must not come within 3" of the side of the bed when rotated, or it must be able to detach from the truck, be manually rotated and re-attached.

Q: I have an older truck and I don’t see the year in the application guide. Can I still get an Original TruXedo® for my truck?

No. The Original TruXedo® cannot be custom made for trucks that are not listed in the application guide. If you would like a tonneau cover for a cover that is not listed, we would recommend purchasing the TruXedo® Lo Pro QT. Just fill out the Box Details Sheet indicating measurements.

Q: I have a truck with a utility track system in the bed. Can I still use an Original TruXedo®?

Many of the late-model trucks have a utility track system to make the truck bed more accessory and user-friendly. We research all of the new trucks to make sure we have the best hardware to attach the Original TruXedo® to the truck. The hardware kits for these beds include modified clamps that will work with the various utility track systems. If you have questions on specific models, please contact customer service at 1-877-878-9336.

Q: I live in a region that gets a lot of heavy snow. Can the Original TruXedo® hold the snow without bending or stretching?

The fabric used in the Original TruXedo® is very high quality and has been tested in extreme conditions. It can hold up to 350 pounds without stretching the fabric.

Q: I would like to install the Original TruXedo® myself. How long will it take to install it myself?

Typically, the Original TruXedo® can be installed easily in about 15-20 minutes. It requires a 9/16“ wrench to tighten the 6 clamps that attach the side rails to the inside of the truck bed and a flathead screwdriver to adjust the tension control plungers. Q: I have a toolbox on my truck already? Can I still get a Original TruXedo® to fit on my truck?

No. The Original TruXedo® cannot be made to fit a truck with an existing toolbox. If you would like a tonneau cover to fit a truck with an existing toolbox, we recommend the TruXedo® Lo Pro QT. Just fill out the Box Details Sheet indicating measurements, truck information, and cover information. We will then manufacture a TruXedo® Lo Pro QT that will fit behind the existing toolbox.

Q: Why is there a hole punched on the rear of the passenger side rail of the Original TruXedo®, but no latch present?

The reason the rails are all punched the same way is to keep them uniform, for manufacturing efficiency and to reduce tooling costs. By doing this, we are able to keep manufacturing time down to get you your orders faster and also to keep the price of our products lower.
